Pastor Lonnie Gowans is a devoted Husband to his Wife Gwendolyn Gowans since August 12, 2006, and a proud father of four beautiful children: Lionel, Charles, Bernadette and Danielle.
Pastor Gowans is a native of the Bay Area. He graduated Devry University with a degree in Computer Electronic Engineering in 1977 and is a recipient of a Computer programming Certificate from the Computer Learning center in San Francisco.
Pastor Gowans graduated from Patten University in 2008 with a B.A. In Pastoral Studies. He received special honor in maintaining a high grade point average for four consecutive years; graduating with top honors.
Pastor Gowans is continuing his Master Degree at American Baptist Seminary of West (ABSW).
In June 2010, God called him to start a para-minisitry Bible Study (Delight in the Word Bible Fellowship); reaching the lost and building uncompromising faith for God in the lives of believers.
On Feb 7th 2011, Delight in the Word Bible Fellowship became an official church.
At approximately the same time Pastor Gowans was called as interim pastor of Christ Centered Missionary Baptist Church while continuing to structure Delight in the Word. On July 31, 2011 Pastor Lonnie accepted the assignment to serve as full time pastor of Christ Centered Missionary Baptist Church.
While taking on the assignment to serve at Christ Centered Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Gowans merged Delight in the Word Bible Fellowship Church. The next 7 years were devoted to sharing God’s plan of salvation, solidifying the truth of Gods’ Word with results to bring the lost into the full knowledge of the atonement and redemption work of Jesus Christ. As Disciples of Christ, the congregation grew, ministries were birthed and members learned to disciple others.
After 7 years, prompted by God, Pastor Gowans relaunched Delight in the Word Bible Fellowship under his own 501c3 on September 4, 2019.
Pastor Gowans passion is God’s pleasure in His purpose to be with his people for all eternity in the person of His Son! Being a platform for God’s Glory through preaching the gospel is Pastor Gowans personal goal.
